Temporary Fence Options for your Construction Site

July 6, 2009 – 7:37 am

Construction sites need to be secured first before commencing operations on the site. This can be done by arranging temporary fencing that guard against intrusion, invasion of unwanted animals and protects against property theft. Moreover fencing is a must to prevent soil erosion which causes extensive damage to water sources and aqua life by the sediments carried away from the site. There are many temporary fencing options of which some are given out which include-

Option # 1:
Metal fencing is the general option most prefer to secure their construction sites as they are cheap and easily available. Wire barb mesh fence and chain link fence are utilised to temporarily fence any site. However these fences can be fitted with diamond shaped cups in between the spaces of the chain link or wire mesh on which attractive ads can be displayed with images or messages. This type of fencing can be offered to advertisers to earn some money. The fence can be taken away after the construction is over to your other sites or can be sold as scrap which fetches some money.

Option # 2:
Silt fencing with polypropylene is another method of temporary fencing of construction sites. These fences are made of polypropylene fabric grounded deep into the soil to prevent soil erosion and consequent run off of soil along with water. These are ideal for use in large construction sites and can be conveniently used for advertising. The fabric can be embossed with the logos and slogans which are viewed by all the visitors to the site. Since they are erected on large sites, they attract high traffic which is useful to the products advertised on the fabric.

Option # 3:
Wood fencing is done to secure animal enclosures and can be used to splash ad messages on the wooden enclosures.

All these temporary fencing options can be considered while starting your construction and the inclusion of any one these options help you to meet the stringent soil erosion control laws.

Ways to reduce Sediment Loss on Building Sites

June 15, 2009 – 8:57 am

Building sites cause enormous soil erosion that harms waterways and marine life. You have to install controls to limit the soil erosion and reduce the sediment loss that occurs due to the construction activity. The following methods can be used by you to reduce sediment loss and contribute to the environment cause as a matter of propriety.

Step # 1:
You can install silt fencing around the area of construction even before the commencement of the construction activity. This fencing prevents soil erosion, guards against intruders and checks the entry of animals into the site. Silt fencing consists of a polypropylene fabric grounded well into the soil that acts as a barrier for sediment loss by filtering the sediments, retains the soil and allows only clean water to pass through.

Step # 2:
You can install storm water protection system to collect sudden water flows due to rains. This enables to deprive gushing rain water to rip off the loose top soil and prevents sediment loss at the construction sites. It is advisable to collect storm water well outside the site to prevent damage. Gutters can be connected with the storm water drains to draw water that accumulates inside the building site.

Step # 3:
You need to revegetate and stabilise the disturbed areas of the site for it to regain the original condition as soon as possible after the work is completed. You can strengthen the kerb side with turf strips that prevent sediment loss effectively.

Step #4:
You can undertake all the washing activities in the construction areas behind the sediment controls so that they do not cause sediment loss. This method can be put to practice easily as no cost is involved.

All these steps can be incorporated in your building sites both commercial and individual to reduce sediment loss effectively and prevent the hidden damage lurking round the corner.

Options for Sediment Control

May 5, 2009 – 8:24 am

In an age that is focusing more and more on environment and trying to control environmental hazards, sediment control is just another part of the big picture. Often it is seen that when construction is carried out within the city or just on the outskirts of a city, it can lead to sedimentation and erosion of the sand and earth in that region or particular construction site. Sometimes, the sediment can flow with water into the drains and choke it and sometimes it can flow on to the road, which created high risk for drivers. This happens mostly when there are no barriers. So what is the best option?

One of the best options is to get fence wraps. Fence wraps are strong and durable and can control the erosion to a great extent. The only thing is that you will need to change it from time to time. You can even use printed silt fence, which will be able to restrict the movement of the sediment during erosion. During rains, you will find rainwater washing away sand and silt from your construction site and this can go onto the storm drains and roads as well. In such a scenario, a silt fence will be able to restrict all the sediments and silt from flowing on to the road or into the storm drains.

The second advantage of using a silt fence is that it can be used as a form of advertising. This is not just any regular medium of advertising but serves a dual purpose. You will get to advertise the name of your company as well as your logo and people will be able to relate to your company as the one who own the construction site. Secondly, it will restrict sediment erosion, which can lead to bigger problems. Depending on the size of the area you are working in, whether it is a circular area or rectangular, fence wraps and printed silt fences can be put to control sediment outflow, erosion and for meaningful and effective advertising.

How to meet Soil Erosion Control Laws

April 6, 2009 – 12:06 pm

The increasing environmental concerns are forcing law makers to put into effect stringent protection measures to prevent environmental degradation. Soil erosion is a major factor in construction sites that must be prevented at all costs to mitigate several economic and environmental hardships that may occur due to it. The stiff soil control erosion laws can be met by adopting these measures which are beneficial and long lasting to all of us.

Measure # 1:
Before the actual commencement of construction, soil erosion control measures must be in place for their effectiveness. You must erect these controls sufficiently beyond the construction area to lessen the damage of soil erosion. This helps to complete your construction well within the time frame and be within the laws framed to control soil erosion.

Measure # 2:
Silt fencing around the perimeter of the site is ideal for large sites like airports, commercial complexes and apartments. It consists of polypropylene fabric that filters the sediments and allows only clear water to flow out of the site. This retains the soil at the site and effectively prevents erosion. Silt fencing may be temporary at construction sites but can be utilised to offer them to advertisers for placing their ads on the fence. This enables to get back the amount invested on the silt fence and also helps to abide the law for soil erosion control.

Measure # 3:
You can use sandbags to prevent water runoff which acts as a regulator and allows the water to flow at a uniform rate. This prevents the soil erosion due to the reduction in the speed of the water which is normally responsible for ripping off the top soil and cause erosion. However sandbags can be used on small areas for better control.

Measure # 4:
Storm water protection system also helps to control erosion by controlling the flow of water suddenly due to rain and enables to prevent damage to waterways and marine life.

These measures would be sufficient for you to meet the soil erosion control laws effectively.

Options for Sediment Control

October 6, 2008 – 8:11 am

There are so many options for outdoor advertising that at times, you might feel confused regarding the option that fulfills your requirement. The type of medium and materials used actually depend on your requirement and where you propose to put it. Now if you have a construction site then putting a hoarding in the center of it might not be a great idea. Although, it will be seen from a long distance but then entire construction site with sediments and everything else will also be seen. This will not paint a nice picture with your audience. On the other hand, if you use specific outdoor advertising options like fence wraps or printed silt fence then it will have a better impact. Why?

This is because the fence wraps and printed silt fences can help in controlling or restrict the movement of the sediment during erosion. During rains, you will find the rainwater washing away sand and silt from your construction site and this can go onto the storm drains and roads as well. In such a scenario, a printed silt fence will be able to restrict all the sediments and silt from flowing on to the road or into the storm drains.
